A primed surface means that a base layer is already applied to the casting, which evens out the absorbency of the material and brings out the definition of the joints. The builder skips the step which on varied structures tends to be the most tiresome, that is getting the base evenly into every gap between the bricks without the fine definition clogging up and being lost.
The piece, twelve and a half centimeters to a side and six and a half centimeters high, depicts a brick wall with two pillars and with a covering of barrel tiles on the top. This is exactly how boundary walls in the south of Europe looked: plain masonry, simple posts and a tile which led water away from the head of the brickwork.
The untouched state with no cracks fits scenes from the time when the front had not yet passed through, or will serve as a counterweight to damaged elements in the same scene. The contrast of a whole and a broken wall works very well in a display case, because the eye grasps at once what took place there.
Under the base layer the definition of the bricks stays clearly legible, because it is applied thinly and does not clog the joints. Thanks to that the procedure also works where the whole surface is first carried over with one tone of mortar and the individual bricks are then drawn back out with a brush piece by piece. Such a way gives a wall a depth that cannot be reached by spraying over the whole area.
Painting can begin straight with glazes and washes, or by way of filters. The scale is 1:35 and the part forms a backdrop which closes a scene off, not the main model of the scene.
