About product

Eduard 1:35 photo-etched set — the S-38 Schnellboot

A photo-etched set of the Eduard brand in 1:35 scale meant for a model of the German fast torpedo boat S-38 (Schnellboot). It is not a kit but an accessory of thin brass sheet, which replaces or completes the details of the deck and the superstructures with truer etched parts that plastic cannot capture.

The real subject

The Schnellboot (known to the Allies as the E-boat) was a fast German torpedo boat of the Second World War with a wooden hull on a steel frame. It served for night attacks on merchant as well as warships in the English Channel and other waters. The S-38 line was among its widespread variants.

Fitting the photo-etched parts

Nip the parts carefully out of the fret, shape the precise bends on a bender and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) or with epoxy. Degrease the sheet before painting and treat it with a primer for metal; add the fine parts such as the railings and the grilles only once the surrounding parts have dried.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building this boat who want truer detail of the deck and the superstructures
  • Anyone interested in the Kriegsmarine of the Second World War
  • More advanced builders with experience of photo-etch
  • Those aiming at competition quality in a model

This is an add-on photo-etched set, not a model. The kit itself and paints are not included in the package.
