About product

Sand armor for the M7 Priest 1:35 (PANZER ART)

This is a resin detail set, not a model. It contains castings of sandbags shaped for the hull and the open fighting compartment of the American M7 self-propelled howitzer. Crews used them to strengthen protection against splinters and small arms. The casting captures a realistic sag and the folds of packed bags.

The real subject

The M7 Priest was an American 105 mm self-propelled howitzer on a chassis derived from the M3 and M4 medium tanks. It got the nickname Priest from the circular machine gun position that resembled a pulpit. It served from North Africa through Italy to northwestern Europe.

Building and painting tips

Wash the parts free of mold release agent, cut off the casting blocks and bond them with super glue (cyanoacrylate). The bags come out with sandy shades and dry-brushing; dusting with pigments and slight differences of color between the bags add to the credibility of the scene.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of the M7 self-propelled howitzer with field modifications
  • Creators of dioramas of the western battlefield
  • Modelers with experience of resin

The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.
