1:35 Stove

A stove in 1:35 scale for a diorama

A scenic accessory for an interior scene in 1:35 scale. A stove belongs in living rooms, workshops, guardrooms and makeshift quarters set up in a damaged building. It is not a vehicle kit and not a finished model; it is a stand-alone piece of equipment for a scene, to be cleaned up, painted and seated yourself.

What the accessory is for

A heater is a rewarding element in an interior diorama: it gives a room a purpose, the movement of figures naturally heads toward it, and it offers plenty of ways to enliven a scene. Wood, coal, a bucket or hanging laundry can be arranged around a stove, and a flue pipe helps to connect the interior with the wall and the ceiling. A stove will also take strong weathering, so even a small part reads well in a photograph. The 1:35 scale is the distinguishing detail; the same subject also comes out in further scales.

Tips for working and painting

• Wash the part in lukewarm soapy water and let it dry, and only then paint it.
• Cut the flash off with a scalpel and level the mating surface on abrasive paper.
• Lay the base down thinly, so that the door, the hinges and the grate stay legible.
• Cast-iron surface: a dark gray base, a fine dry brush in a graphite shade, a matte varnish at the end.
• Apply soot by the door and around the flue with a black pigment dry, and suggest rust in spots rather than over the whole surface.

Who the accessory is for

• Builders of dioramas and vignettes in 1:35 scale
• Modelers who furnish building interiors and makeshift quarters
• Figure painters looking for an element around which the action of a scene can be built

This is a scenic accessory, not a kit. Paints, glue, a base and figures are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
