An accessory in 1:35 scale for models of the German StuG III Ausf. G assault gun: improvised armor for the roof of the fighting compartment, of the kind crews added in the field.

The Sturmgeschutz III Ausf. G is the late version of the German assault gun built on the chassis of the Panzer III tank. It carries a 7.5 cm gun in the front plate of the superstructure, the machine has no rotating turret and its silhouette is therefore low. The weak point of such a design remains the roof of the fighting compartment, where the armor is thinnest. In fighting among buildings and under artillery fire, crews therefore added plates and simple frames over the roof that were to catch splinters and charges before they landed on the thin roof.
The set captures exactly that field modification: additional protection over the roof of the fighting compartment for a model of the StuG III Ausf. G in 1:35 scale. The breakdown of the parts and their placing on a model are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The parts are not polystyrene and ordinary plastic cement has no effect on them; use cyanoacrylate. Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little clear of the part and sand the remainder carefully, so that the thin edges are preserved. Before painting, wash and degrease the parts, otherwise the paint will hold poorly on them. An improvised modification suits matching painting as well: plates scrounged in the field tended to be a different shade from the rest of the vehicle, the edges wore quickly to bare metal, and rust and dust collected in the corners.
For modelers who are building a late StuG III Ausf. G and want the field modification on it that a kit mostly does not offer. It will also serve well as a striking element in a diorama of street fighting. A kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
