An add-on set of photo-etched sheet from Voyager Model, meant for reworking the Tamiya 35228 and 35234 or Italeri 6364 kits, which the modeler already owns. It is not a kit of the vehicle. The set deals with the anti-skid chains fitted on the wheels, that is a detail that can hardly be made in plastic and that at the same time gives a model the look of a particular season and terrain at once.
The M8 is an American light armored car with all-wheel drive, used during the Second World War for reconnaissance and patrol duty. The M20 is a version derived from it without a rotating turret, serving for transport and liaison. Wheeled vehicles of this type were routinely fitted in autumn mud and in winter with chains on the tires, because without them they had only limited mobility in boggy or snow-covered terrain.
Working with such fine photo-etched parts calls for calm and good light. Leave the part on the fret first and trace the shape of the wheel, so that you know how much sheet you need. Wrap the chain around the tire gradually and press it down with a wooden stick or a rubber tip, so that it follows the rounded profile of the tread. Brass in a thin gauge is pliable, but you can tear it easily with sharp tools. Glue it in spots, only where the chain crosses over itself or touches the sidewall of the tire. Painting is an ideal opportunity for contrast: paint the chain in a dark metallic shade, apply a fine bright metal or graphite to the surfaces in contact with the road and weather the rest with rust and a deposit of mud. It is precisely the different surface of the metal against the rubber that makes this detail readable even in a photograph.
The set is an accessory for a kit, not a standalone model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
