Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the German one-man Biber midget submarine of the Second World War, in the large 1:35 scale from Italeri. Thanks to the small size of the real vessel and the large scale, it makes a fairly small but richly detailed model. The set holds photo-etched accessories, decals for several variants and two figures, with which you can build a striking diorama with the crew and the handling party. The exact number of parts and the extent of the photo-etch are given in the instructions in the box.
The Biber was the best known German pocket submarine committed by the Kriegsmarine in the closing stage of the Second World War. It was a small one-man craft about nine meters long, which carried two torpedoes slung outside the hull, or naval mines in their place. Bibers were built in hundreds and were meant to operate against Allied shipping in coastal waters. Their combat effectiveness was limited, but they are a striking record of the improvised weapons of the end of the war.
The small hull lets you concentrate on detail: fill the seams carefully and glue the photo-etched elements with cyanoacrylate. The external torpedoes and the small conning tower with its hatch are rewarding focal points for weathering. Use a base coat, the main shades with an airbrush and a pronounced patina with rust streaks and algae. Paint both figures from a muted base up to lighter layers; they bring the whole scene to life and give the model its sense of scale. A diorama base will complete the atmosphere.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
