A photo-etched set in 1:35 scale from E.T. Model for building the American M2A1 ammunition can for heavy 12.7 mm rounds. It is the largest of the commonly widespread metal cans, with a folding handle on the lid and a broad catch, and it appears with American and Allied vehicles from the Second World War to the present. The package holds flat metal parts to be folded up; it is not a kit of a vehicle.
Cans for 12.7 mm ammunition appear on models in larger numbers, because they accompany every heavy machine gun on a turret or a mount. The plastic pieces from a kit have coarse walls and only suggested fittings. The photo-etched version gives the can the correct sheet thickness, sharp edges and legible hinges, so it stands up even in the foreground of a composition or in the hand of a figure. An open can also makes it possible to show the inside and suggest an ammunition belt.
Cut the parts out with a scalpel on a hard surface and lightly sand the burrs down. Make the folds along the score lines and work one at a time, so that the walls do not twist. Degrease the metal with alcohol, glue it with small drops of cyanoacrylate and leave the joint undisturbed to harden. Spray a base coat for metal before painting. A matte olive or sand shade works well according to the scene, with fine scuffing on the edges in a silvery gray shade and a dark wash in the recesses. Dust on the base and the sides will bring the can together with the rest of the diorama.
