This resin set replaces the front, that is the steered wheels of the American M3 half-track on a plastic kit in 1:35 scale. It is not a model of the vehicle but an accessory. The castings have the tire bent where it meets the road and, given that a half-track has only one wheel on each side at the front, they have an unusually large share in the final impression.
The rear part of the vehicle carries the track, which takes the attention of the eye itself. At the front, however, a conventional steered axle remains with tires that are completely exposed in a front view, with no fender to cover them. It is exactly here that a plastic part glued from two halves shows, because the seam runs precisely across the middle of the tread and sanding it away without damaging the pattern is a nuisance. A resin casting is whole and the tread pattern stays untouched.
Wash the castings with dish soap. On wheels the casting block tends to be on the mating surface of the hub; cut it off and level the surface on sandpaper laid on glass, so that the wheel sits square. Turn the deformed flat spot downward and line both wheels up to the same height, or the vehicle will rock at the front. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). When painting, separate the rim from the rubber, then dust the tread with pigment and add a lighter deposit on the sidewalls, where dust thrown up by the track rubs against the tire. A small detail that ties the front and the rear of the vehicle together at once.
The accessory is supplied unpainted, as resin castings to be finished. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
