The cockpit fittings of the Republic P-47D-25RE Thunderbolt in 1:48 scale are lifted by a finished Eduard LööK resin instrument panel. The set is an add-on for a kit, not a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
Cockpit fittings are usually the biggest compromise on a model: the panel is only suggested, the dials run together and painting them cleanly takes work. The set from the LööK range goes at it directly — it supplies the instrument panel as a finished painted resin part, which in this range usually comes with etched steel belts as well. You use it on a model in 1:48 scale; it is not a model itself.
The D-25 block received a cut-down fuselage spine and a bubble canopy. From that point on the cockpit is visible from practically every side, even with the canopy closed, because the clear glazing hides nothing. Detailing the instrument panel therefore tells more on a bubble-top Thunderbolt than on the older blocks with a covered spine.
The Thunderbolt was among the heaviest single-engined fighters of World War II. A Pratt & Whitney R-2800 radial engine with a turbocharger gave it excellent performance at high altitude, and a rugged airframe made it a favorite machine for attacks on ground targets. The blocks with the bubble canopy made up the final and most numerous part of production.
Wash the resin before gluing so that no mold release agent is left on it. Cut the casting blocks off, never break them off. Use cyanoacrylate glue for fitting. Try the fit dry and deal with any overhang by reworking the plastic parts. If you are building with the canopy open, add some fine shading to the side walls as well, so that the finished panel does not come across as the only detailed element in an otherwise flat interior.
