An add-on set of photo-etched brass sheet from Voyager Model. It is not a kit of the tank but parts meant for reworking a model the modeler has obtained separately. The set holds the side protective plates and the matching hangers, that is parts on which the difference between plastic and sheet is most apparent in scale.
The Tiger II, in modeling practice commonly called the King Tiger, was a German heavy tank from the end of the Second World War with a long gun barrel and heavily sloped frontal armor. German equipment of this period was routinely supplemented in the field with thin sheet side plates, in German Schürzen, which hung on simple hangers along the hull. Their task was to catch a hit before it landed on the armor proper. In practice they tended to be bent, damaged or missing altogether.
With long flat parts flatness decides it. Never cut a plate off across with scissors, because it will always buckle; cut it off with a scalpel on a hard surface. If a part does ripple after all, lay it between two flat smooth surfaces and weight it down; with brass that works without trouble. Then hold the plates against the model dry and check that the row hangs in one plane, otherwise deviations are very noticeable on a finished model. Yet it is here that a photo-etched part has the advantage: it can be convincingly bent crooked, dished or have a corner taken off it, which with plastic ends in a break. Paint separately from the hull, so that the paint gets behind the plates too, and suggest wear on the edges. Rust and fine dust at the point of attachment give the whole thing depth.
The set is an accessory for a kit, not a standalone model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
