A black shade from the Number Five range named after the Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. The subject is a car on which the black surface of the body does not serve as a background but as half of the whole visual idea.
The second generation of the Firebird was built from 1970 and the Trans Am was its top version: a long hood with an intake opening, a plastic front section, spoilers and a V8 under the hood. The turning point came with a special edition of the second half of the 1970s, on which black paint was combined with gold lining, gold wheels and a giant gold bird across the whole hood. Removable roof panels and a film role of 1977 made it a pop culture icon that modelers build all over the world today, and the basis of this combination is always a deep black with neither a blue nor a brown cast.
The plastic nose without a visible bumper sets this version apart from the base form even at a distance, and black paint emphasizes its shape further. With a black body it holds that it gives away every unfinished edge and every remnant of a mold line, so the result is decided by the preparation of the surface far more than with light shades.
