B-24D Liberator 90th Bomb Group in 1:48 scale is a decal sheet from DK Decals devoted to the Liberators of one of the American bomb groups in the Pacific.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a decal sheet for the large 1:48 scale, not a kit. The package holds no plastic parts - the decals are intended for a B-24D Liberator model that you build separately. The subject is the machines of the 90th Bomb Group of the US Army Air Forces. The number of schemes, the machine names and the list of aircraft are given in the instructions supplied with the sheet.
Of all the forms of the four-engine Liberator, the B-24D was the one that first reached the squadrons in quantity. The reach that mattered so much in the Pacific came from its high, narrow wing, for out there a base and its target could lie an ocean apart in a way nothing in Europe matched. Flying the type in the Southwest Pacific was the 90th Bomb Group, a heavy bomb unit under the American Fifth Air Force, and what modelers remember about its aircraft is the unit marking they carried, bold enough to leave the group with the name Jolly Rogers. Work at 1:48 and a marking like that has all the room it needs to tell.
A decal always belongs on a gloss base. On matte clear, air is trapped beneath it and silvering appears, which can then be removed only by taking the decal off. The order of steps therefore runs: paint, gloss clear, decals, decal softener and finally matte or semi-matte clear over the whole model. In 1:48 scale the marking areas are large - slide the decal into place, draw off the excess water and press it down with a soft brush from the middle outward, so that no bubble is closed in beneath it. On riveted and broken-up areas use a decal softener, which pulls the decal into the engraved lines.
This is a decal set, not a kit. The model, paints, clear coat and decal softener are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
