A set from the SPACE range by the Czech manufacturer Eduard in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit of the bomber but a set of colored 3D decals, that is film elements with a raised relief, which are fitted above all to the instrument panel, the side panels and other parts of the cockpit. Compared with a classic flat decal they have a real thickness, so the instruments and controls look three-dimensional even up close and when the model is photographed.
The B-17G Flying Fortress is the last and most numerously produced version of the American four-engine heavy bomber of the Second World War period. It is told from the older variants at first glance by the remotely aimed turret under the nose, added for defense against head-on attacks. The machine had four radial engines, extensive glazing of the nose and extensive defensive armament distributed along the whole fuselage. It is one of the best-known bombers of its day and a very frequent subject in modeling.
First finish and degrease the surface the decals will go onto — ideally with alcohol on a cotton bud. Moisten the backing paper under the chosen element with a sponge and a drop of detergent and wait until the element releases. Lift it off with tweezers, not with your fingers, and fix it with white PVA glue; the manufacturer does not recommend cyanoacrylate glue. Lay the element in place, check the position and only then press it down with a cotton bud from the center to the edges. A decal softener is not used at all, as its chemistry attacks the printed layer. A finished interior does not have to be varnished; if you nevertheless want to even the gloss out, use a fine spray of matte varnish from a greater distance and in thin layers.
The set is an accessory for a model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
