A vacuum-formed cabin canopy 1:48 for the Yokosuka D4Y Suisei (Judy) from Dead Design: a thinner and clearer replacement for the kit part for the Japanese carrier dive bomber.
Responsibility details are not available.
A replacement vacuum-formed cabin canopy in 1:48 scale for the Japanese carrier dive bomber Yokosuka D4Y Suisei, carried by the Allies under the code Judy. The designation of the set covers the D4Y1/4 versions. The long glazed cabin of the two-man crew dominates the whole model, and it is exactly here that a vacuum-formed canopy offers a markedly better look than the thick molded part from the kit.
A vacuum-formed canopy is noticeably thinner and clearer, so the interior of the cockpit stays clearly visible and true to scale. The thin material also makes it easy to display the cabin in the open position and to show off the detail of the cockpit. The part is carefully cut out with a sharp scalpel or fine scissors, the edges are tuned with abrasive paper, and it is glued with a cement intended for clear parts, which leaves no stains.
The Yokosuka D4Y Suisei was a fast carrier dive bomber of the Imperial Japanese Navy. The early versions were powered by a liquid-cooled inverted V12 engine, while the later machines received a radial engine; the type operated from aircraft carriers and from land bases throughout the second half of the war in the Pacific.
This is a modeling accessory: the aircraft kit itself is not included in the package.
