A photo-etched detail for car models in 1:24 scale: license plates in thin metal. It is not a kit but a small accessory that replaces either a thick plastic part from the kit or a flat decal stuck onto the bodywork.
On a car model the license plate is a small thing, but one the eye goes to at once — it sits front and rear, on the center line of the car and in a contrasting color. Etched metal is a few tenths of a millimeter thick, so the plate looks like a separate panel rather than printing on the bodywork. The etched outline also gives a sharp edge and a slight relief that shows through the paint.
Cut the part out with a sharp knife against a hard surface and level the remaining tab with a file. Degrease the metal with isopropyl alcohol, otherwise the paint will not hold on it. Lay down a thin surfacer and the base shade; if you are going to finish the plate with a decal, leave a smooth gloss surface underneath it. On the model such a small part is attached with a spot of cyanoacrylate glue or with glue for clear plastic, which leaves no white bloom around the joint and gives you time to line the part up with the center line. Seal the finished plate with a varnish that matches the sheen of the surrounding bodywork.
This is an accessory, not a kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
