This is a detailing accessory, not a kit of an aircraft. The resin replacement for the exhaust nozzle is intended for models of the F-16 in 1:48 scale powered by the General Electric F110 engine. This variant captures the nozzle in the open position, that is with the end petals spread, as it looks with the engine shut down or at low power. A resin casting offers thinner walls and a more faithful rendering of the petals and the inner liner than an injection mold can manage.
The F-16 is a single-engine multirole combat aircraft that was delivered in production form with two engine standards – with the General Electric F110 powerplant and with the Pratt & Whitney F100. The nozzles of the two engines differ visibly on the outside in shape and in the number and division of the end petals, which for a modeler is the surest recognition feature of a given version. The position of the petals moreover changes with engine power, so the choice between the open and the closed variant determines the final look of a model on the shelf.
Wash the part in lukewarm water with dish soap so that the residue of the mold release agent is removed. Cut the casting block off with a saw, do not break it off. Glue with superglue, or with epoxy; cement for plastic will not join resin. Do any sanding wet and with your airways protected. It is a good idea to paint and shade the nozzle separately, before it is glued into the fuselage – the inside is hard to get at once assembled. Metallic and heat-tinted shades tell on a smooth primer coat; mix metallic paints thoroughly and apply them last.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
