The F-35A Lightning II is an American single-engine multirole combat aircraft with a reduced radar signature. The letter A marks the rendering for conventional takeoff and landing from land runways, that is, a version different from the variant for short takeoff and vertical landing and from the variant for aircraft carriers. The effort to keep the signature as low as possible has shaped the whole machine: the surface is smooth, the edges are aligned into a few directions and the main part of the armament is hidden in weapon bays inside the fuselage. The A version is the only one fitted with a built-in cannon.
This is an accessory set of parts that is built into a kit in 1:48 scale. Accessories of this kind replace parts from the kit with more accurately rendered ones, or add elements that are not in the box. The extent of the parts and their placement on the model are given in the manufacturer's instructions supplied with the set.
Cut off excess material with a sharp blade a little away from the part and level the remainder with fine sandpaper. Test the fit dry and level any mating surfaces so that the part does not stand above the surrounding surface anywhere. Wash and degrease the parts before painting. On this type of aircraft it pays to watch the smoothness of the surface: every irregularity around an inset part shows at once once a uniform color is sprayed on.
