This resin set from Quickboost, a brand of the Czech maker Aires, brings finely cast barrels for the onboard guns together with underwing pylons for a model of the American Vought F4U-5 Corsair carrier fighter in 1:48 scale. It is not an airplane model but a detail accessory for more experienced modelers, replacing the coarser plastic parts with crisper and more exact castings.
The Vought F4U Corsair was an American carrier fighter recognizable by its inverted gull wing and powered by a Pratt and Whitney R-2800 radial engine. The F4U-5 version was among the postwar, higher-performing variants; in the fighter and attack roles with underwing stores the Corsair proved itself as late as the Korean War, when the pylons carried bombs and rockets.
First wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water to remove mold release residue. Cut off the casting blocks with a saw and sand the cut surfaces with respiratory protection. Bond the barrels and the pylons with super glue (cyanoacrylate) and watch that they line up and stay symmetrical. Test the fit dry before painting.
The set is supplied as a resin part, unassembled and unpainted. It is not an airplane model but an accessory for a plastic kit. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
