Landing gear bays for the Hurricane

An add-on set of the landing gear bays for a model of the Hawker Hurricane fighter in 1:48 scale. It replaces the shallow space from a kit with a bay that is deeper and more varied. It is a place that is rarely given attention during a build, and yet on a finished model it catches the eye whenever you look at it from below.

The real subject

The Hurricane retracted its main landing gear inward into a space in the central part of the wing, so the wheels stood a long way apart. The wide track was a noticeable advantage over the fighters that served alongside it: on a grass and waterlogged airfield it forgave considerably more and made landing easier for the pilot. It is therefore worth working out the space into which the landing gear folded.

Installation tips

• Dry-fit the parts in the wing first and only then modify the mating surfaces.
• Cut the excess material off a little way from the part with a sharp blade and sand the remainder down carefully.
• Before painting, wash the parts in lukewarm water with dish soap, degrease them and let them dry.
• Paint the bay before you close the wing up, because afterwards you will not reach into it with a brush.
• The suitable glue for the material is given in the manufacturer's instructions.

This is an add-on set for a kit. The model of the aircraft, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise. Check that the parts seat dry before gluing.
