Replacement exhaust stacks cast in modeling resin for a model of the Junkers Ju 87B in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit of the aircraft but a detail accessory that is fitted in place of the plastic parts from the box. The castings have thin walls and open mouths, whereas injection-molded plastic usually has them filled and coarse, which is clearly noticeable precisely on exhausts that stand out from the silhouette of the cowling. The set is intended for an ordinary build with the engine cowling closed.
The Junkers Ju 87B is a single-engine two-seat dive bomber, recognizable by its inverted gull wing and its fixed landing gear in aerodynamic fairings. The design was subordinated to the dive attack: the aircraft had dive brakes under the wing and a solid structure able to take a violent pull-out. The engine was a liquid-cooled inverted V12, whose exhaust gases were carried away by a row of short exhaust stacks on both sides of the cowling. The hot gases behind them left a pronounced dark stain on the skin of the fuselage, which modelers like to imitate.
Cut the stacks off the casting block with a fine saw and level the seating surface on abrasive paper on a flat board. Wash the resin in lukewarm soapy water before painting, so that the mold release agent disappears. It is bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Paint with a dark metallic base, darken the mouths almost to black and work the surface up with rusty and gray-brown pigments. Lay the smoke stain on the fuselage with an airbrush using heavily thinned paint in several thin passes, so that no hard band appears.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
