This item is a modeling aid, not an aircraft model. The set contains pre-cut self-adhesive masks shaped for a particular type of aircraft in 1:48 scale. Masking clear parts is among the least pleasant steps of a build: trimming tape by hand with a knife is slow and a single slip of the blade scratches the canopy. Ready-made masks shorten this step to a few minutes and the edges of the frames come out straight and sharp.
The Reggiane Re 2000 was an Italian single-engine fighter of all-metal construction with a radial engine and a cantilever low wing. It came about in the second half of the 1930s and, besides its Italian use, it was also delivered abroad, where it flew under further designations. Characteristic of it are the rounded cowling of the radial engine and the canopy glazing divided by relatively fine frames, which on a model in 1:48 scale is rather difficult to mask by hand.
Apply the masks onto a clean, degreased and dry clear part. Take the individual pieces off the sheet with pointed tweezers or a toothpick, so that the adhesive layer is not crumpled. Once applied, press every mask down around its whole perimeter with a wooden toothpick — paint creeping under the edge is the most frequent reason for a poor result. Spray in thin coats; a thick coat of paint makes a step at the edge. It proves itself to spray the frames first in the interior shade and only then in the exterior color. Take the mask off shortly after the paint has dried, not after several days, and by pulling it at a sharp angle to the surface. Remove any adhesive residue with a cotton bud moistened in water.
