The Republic P-47D-25 Thunderbolt set in the LööKplus version is an add-on set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard in 1:48 scale. It is not a model aircraft and not a kit. Eduard's LööK range is built around a finished instrument panel, usually complemented by seat belts, and the designation plus means a wider package of accessories for one aircraft type.
The P-47D-25 was the production block in which the Thunderbolt received a teardrop canopy in place of the earlier glazed spine. The change greatly improved the view to the rear and at the same time altered the silhouette of the aircraft, so bubble-canopy Thunderbolts form a chapter of their own. Besides the canopy, the block also brought a larger internal fuel capacity, which extended the range over continental Europe. The Thunderbolt remained a heavy, rugged machine with a radial engine and was famous for its toughness and for its ability to carry external stores in attacks on ground targets. The open bubble canopy makes interior detail rewarding work, because it is clearly visible on the finished model.
Always dry-fit the parts before gluing. The finished panel does not have to be repainted; a matte coat to even it out is enough. Shape the seat belts slowly and round them over something cylindrical so that they look soft and do not stay angular. Use as little super glue as possible, as its fumes would fog the clear canopy. On a bubble canopy it pays to fit the canopy right at the very end.
