This is not a helicopter kit but a resin accessory in 1:48 scale. The set covers the main rotor of the heavy helicopter in the version with seven blades and three engines, that is, the layout typical of the Super Stallion and its naval derivative the Sea Dragon. The rotor head on these machines is complicated in shape, full of linkages, dampers and hydraulics, and injection-molded plastic manages it only in simplified form.
The CH-53E Super Stallion is an American heavy transport helicopter which, compared with its twin-engine predecessors, received a third engine and a seven-blade main rotor. The combination of higher power and a greater number of blades made a markedly higher cargo weight possible, whether in the cabin or as a slung load. The MH-53E Sea Dragon is a naval machine derived from the same basis, with bulkier side tanks, used above all for towing mine countermeasures equipment and for resupply at sea.
Wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water because of the mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and protect thin parts such as the linkages and the dampers, so that they do not break off. Sand wet and with a mask. It is bonded with super glue, and on larger surfaces an accelerator helps. Paint the rotor head once assembled, so that the metal and oil details stay legible; a dark wash accentuates the shadows between the linkages and a dry brush pulls out the edges. It pays to leave the blades separate and glue them on only after painting.
The set contains resin accessory parts only. The kit, paints, glue and decals are not included in the package.
