Art Scale 1:48 Spitfire Mk.XVI is a double-sided set of pre-cut self-adhesive masks for the glazing of a model from the Eduard kit in 1:48 scale. An aid for painting, not a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
Self-adhesive masks cut to the shape of the glazing of a Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XVI model from the Eduard kit in 1:48 scale. It is not a model of the aircraft but an accessory for painting. The designation double-sided means masks for the outer and the inner face of the glass, so the frames can be sprayed from within with cockpit color.
Glass is the last thing you want to be repairing on a model, so take the masks off only right at the end. You can quite happily spray the gloss varnish for the decals over masked glazing, settle the decals with a softener, run panel lines and a wash over the whole model and fix it all with the final matte or satin varnish. A mask takes all that in its stride and the glass under it stays untouched. When you are done, run the tip of a scalpel lightly along the edge of the mask so that the coats of varnish are broken at the edge, and then peel the mask off slowly with tweezers at a shallow angle. Anyone who takes the masking off earlier and then goes on weathering the model usually spends more time cleaning the glass than on all the rest of the finishing work.
The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XVI is a late version of the British fighter, derived from the Mk.IX and powered by a Merlin engine built under license. It was committed to action at the close of the Second World War and afterwards. The framing of the cockpit is fine and, with hand masking, a long job.
The kit, paints and varnishes are not included in the package. The number of parts and the material of the film are not stated here.
