The Sukhoi Su-57 is a Russian single-seat twin-engine combat aircraft of a new generation with markedly angular fuselage shapes and internal carriage of its armament. Its surface is smooth and divided only by shallow transitions, so every sharp detail stands out on a model and, conversely, every needless thickness of plastic shows at once.
This is a sheet of photo-etched metal parts in 1:48 scale. Photo-etched metal is used where the corresponding plastic part would have to be absurdly thick: on flat details, grilles, straps, covers and small features with a sharp edge. The list of the parts, their placing and the kit the set allows for are given in the supplied instructions.
Separate the metal with a sharp blade against a hard surface, not by twisting, so that the thin part does not ripple. Make the bend in a photo-etch bender or over the edge of a steel rule and press evenly along the whole length, not from one end. For joining, use superglue or a two-part adhesive, as cement for polystyrene will not join metal. Before painting, wash and degrease the parts and start with a thin coat of primer, otherwise the paint rubs off the metal during handling.
The set is for a modeler who wants genuinely thin detail on a modern aircraft in 1:48 scale and does not mind working with tweezers and fine tools.
