This set from Red Fox Studio brings three-dimensional (3D) decals for the cockpit of a plastic model. A color relief print gives the instrument panel and the interior surfaces a depth and a legibility that painting the individual dials in 1:48 scale reaches only with great difficulty. The set is cut for a particular kit and is an accessory to it, not a model of the aircraft on its own. The set is intended for the Tamiya kit.
The Vought F4U Corsair was an American carrier fighter with a Pratt & Whitney R-2800 radial engine and the characteristic inverted gull wing, which made it possible to use a large propeller and at the same time to shorten the landing gear legs. The F4U-1D version was single-seat and adapted to attacks on ground targets as well, which the racks for auxiliary tanks and unguided rockets served. The Corsair served with the Navy and the Marine Corps in the Pacific and its career continued after the Second World War too. The cockpit, set far behind the wing, is well open to view on a model.
Three-dimensional decals are not released from their backing in water like classic wet decals. They are fitted to the interior parts before the fuselage is closed up. The surface should be smooth, degreased and dry. Try the parts dry and for the application itself proceed according to the instructions of the maker of the set.
The set is an accessory for a kit. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
