1:500 Castle-22 Kyoto Imperial Palace is a plastic kit of the Kyoto Imperial Palace in 1:500 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Fujimi.

The model belongs to the range of Japanese historic buildings from the Japanese manufacturer Fujimi, in which the individual items have their own sequence number; this one carries number twenty-two. It is an architectural kit in injection-molded plastic in 1:500 scale, that is a fairly small model, which captures the overall layout of the precinct rather than the detail of individual elements. The number of parts and the dimensions of the finished structure are stated on the box and in the instructions.
The Kyoto Imperial Palace was the seat of the Japanese emperors until the time when the court moved to Tokyo. The walled precinct is made up of a group of low wooden buildings with expansive gabled and hipped roofs, separated by courtyards with a gravel surface. The most important structure is the throne hall, the Shishinden, where the most important court ceremonies took place. The architecture grows out of a calm, restrained tradition: exposed timber structure, a minimum of colored decoration, emphasis on proportion and on the relationship of the buildings to the open space of the courtyard.
In 1:500 scale clean work decides, not the amount of detail. Separate the parts with a sharp knife and sand down the remains of the gates so that they are not visible on the small surfaces. The roofs are the largest continuous area, so it pays to spray them with an airbrush and shade them gently so that they do not look uniform. You will bring the gravel courtyards to life with a light shade touched with beige and a very fine dark wash. The walls and fences only need evening out with primer and a light lift on the edges. The model looks good on a flat base with a discreet border that visually closes the precinct off.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
