A figure scene from the production of the Czech brand MN-hobby, placed in its range of figures. The brand has devoted itself to Czechoslovak subjects for a long time: the gendarmerie, the uniformed police, members of the SNB, the National Security Corps, firefighters, soldiers of 1938 and the May days of 1945. This item belongs to that family too, and the maker offers it in three sizes at once, from the smallest to the large format.
In 1:72 a standing figure measures around twenty-five millimeters. It is the most widespread scale for aircraft and a frequent one for ground equipment as well, so the figures can be worked into scenes with hundreds of finished kits. The tiny size has its own rules: detail is not modeled but suggested, and the result is decided more by color contrast and a legible silhouette than by the fineness of the molding. A small group of figures at this size is able to lend scale to a whole diorama scene, because the viewer immediately relates the size of buildings and vehicles to it.
It works well to paint them separately from the base and only then seat them. Work with a pronounced difference between light and shadow, because fine transitions are lost at this size. For the faces it is enough to suggest a dot of a darker color where the eyes are; more detail tends to look distracting instead. A thin dark wash into the folds and dry-brushing of the edges help at the end.
The set is supplied unpainted; paints are not part of the delivery.
