Hexagon nuts with rod, 1.5 to 2.5 mm

A nut with a rod solves one practical problem on a model. A stand-alone imitation of a nut is a flat part that is glued to the surface and falls off at the slightest touch. A nut with a rod, on the other hand, has a pin at the back that seats in a drilled hole, so it holds mechanically and the glue only completes the joint. It can also be set to sit at a chosen height above the surface. On the real car these fasteners hold covers, brackets, exhaust flanges and suspension parts, so on a model they recur in dozens of places. The set offers sizes from 1.5 to 2.5 mm.

Usage tips

• Choose the size according to the scale and to what the nut holds on the real thing.
• Drill the hole with a micro drill and try the diameter on an offcut first.
• Shorten the rod if necessary so that the part sits at the right height above the surface.
• Bond with a tiny amount of super glue; any excess creeps under the nut.
• A metallic look comes only after priming; a smooth surface otherwise does not hold the paint.
• Sort the parts by size into dishes beforehand, because on the bench they get mixed up at once.

Who it is for

The set is for modelers of cars and motorcycles who are finishing off engine bays, chassis and suspension. Fitting them is simple; the harder part is working out where the nuts belong. The guide is always a photograph of the real car, not a guess.

It is not a vehicle model. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. The small parts are not suitable for young children.
