Ano. Vrtulníky rodiny Mi-8/Mi-17 slouží v československém a českém letectvu desítky let. Armáda České republiky dnes provozuje stroje Mi-171Š, odvozené z Mi-17, u vrtulníkové základny v Náměšti nad Oslavou. Pro české modeláře je to tedy skutečně domácí téma.

Nejjistější poznávací znak je vyrovnávací (ocasní) rotor: Mi-8 ho má na pravé straně ocasního nosníku, Mi-17 na levé. Mi-17 má navíc silnější motory TV3-117 s kratšími kryty, jiný tvar výfuků a prachové filtry před vstupy do motorů.

Raná produkční podoba z doby studené války, tedy stroje ze sedmdesátých a osmdesátých let bez pozdějších modernizačních prvků. Stavebnice tak míří na starší, „čistší“ verzi Hipa.
