An aftermarket accessory, not a kit. The set holds a thin wooden veneer cut to the shape of the deck of a model of the battleship USS California BB-44 as she was in 1941 in 1:700 scale, with printed plank laying and a self-adhesive backing. It is glued onto the plastic deck of the model and replaces the engraving, which only imitates wood.
Work in this scale is a different discipline from larger ships. The whole part fits in the palm of a hand, the spacing of the planks is at the limit of what the eye can tell apart and the cut-outs around the superstructures are a few tenths of a millimeter wide. Do not start without fine-tipped tweezers and good lighting; a lens or a magnifier on a stand comes in handy too. Always handle the veneer by the edge, never by the adhesive area; a fingerprint is a fairly large patch in this scale.
Small deck segments are easily lost or creased. Cut them out only at the moment you are going to glue them, and leave them in the sheet until then. When seating them, find one reference edge to line the part up against first, and only then let the rest settle; hunting for the right position at the moment the adhesive is already gripping does not work. Use a scalpel with a fresh blade to clean them up, and cut on a mat, not on the model.
An accessory for a plastic kit, not a model on its own. The deck segments are shaped for the Trumpeter 05783 kit and another one cannot be counted on. The tools, paints and kit are not in the package.
