The USS California BB-44 1945 1:700 (Trumpeter) is a plastic kit of the American Tennessee class battleship in her form from the end of the Second World War. The hull can be built as a full hull or to the waterline.

Injection-molded plastic kit of the American battleship USS California (BB-44) in her 1945 configuration, in 1:700 scale from Trumpeter. The hull allows a full-hull as well as a waterline version to be put together. The box contains a finely rendered relief of the wooden deck, the parts for the extensive superstructures and turrets, photo-etched extras, shipboard floatplanes, a stand and a nameplate. The instructions enclosed in the box state the exact parts count and decal schemes.
USS California was a Tennessee class battleship. During the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941 she was heavily damaged and sank at her berth; the Americans then raised her and she went through an extensive rebuild. In her new, modernized form with increased anti-aircraft armament and new radars she returned to service and spent the last two years of the war in the fighting in the Pacific, including support for landing operations and battles against the Japanese fleet. The 1945 form therefore shows the ship at the peak of her wartime development.
Choose the hull version first - the lower part and the waterline plate are mutually exclusive. The intricate superstructures and the anti-aircraft guns call for careful cleaning up and patient gluing; glue the photo-etched items with cyanoacrylate. We recommend a primer, the main shades sprayed with an airbrush according to the camouflage scheme you choose, and a dark wash to bring out the deck and the detail. The stand with the nameplate makes display easier.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
