Quinta Studio 1:72 AH-1G Cobra — a vacuum-formed clear canopy replaces the glazing of the attack helicopter with a thin-walled clear molding with finer framing. An accessory for a plastic model.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Cobra has long and broken-up glazing: it runs across both tandem cockpits and forms a substantial part of the silhouette of the front section. That is exactly why the thickness of the material tells here. A vacuum-formed molding is noticeably thinner than an injection-molded part from a kit, so the framing does not look massive and the interior beneath it stays legible.
A vacuum-formed canopy is not separated from its backing with a knife — thin film would crack or crumple. Leave a border around the molding, lay it on fine abrasive paper on a flat surface and remove material with a circular motion until you reach the parting line exactly all around. With a longer part, as the glazing of the Cobra is, check the evenness of the sanding more often: it is enough for one end to go faster and the canopy will then not seat level on the model.
Glue with a glue that dries perfectly clear, that is a product intended for canopies and clear parts. Cyanoacrylate glue fogs the material and such a part can no longer be saved. Before you start gluing, try the fit dry and fill any gaps with the same glue — once dry it stays transparent. Mask the framing with narrow strips of tape or with a mask and spray the paint in thin layers. Inside it pays to spray the interior shade first, so that the framing looks right from within as well.
This is an accessory, not a kit of the helicopter. The base model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
