A decal sheet in 1:72 scale with eight marking options for the bomber and reconnaissance versions of the wooden twin-engine de Havilland Mosquito. It includes machines of British, Australian and American service.
Responsibility details are not available.
This twin-engine aircraft built largely of wood was among the fastest machines of the Second World War and its reconnaissance versions stayed in service long after it. The bomber version designated B.Mk.XVI carried a pressurized cabin and an enlarged bomb bay, whereas the reconnaissance PR.34 received an increased fuel load for flights over the Far East.
The sheet offers eight marking options and deliberately mixes theaters and air forces. You will find machines of the Royal Air Force here, from a reconnaissance squadron in southern England through units operating in Italy and in India all the way to an aircraft from the Malay Peninsula that in 1953 carried out the last operational reconnaissance flight of this type.
The line-up is completed by a reconnaissance Mosquito of the Royal Australian Air Force from a unit operating from the northern tip of the continent and by a pair of machines that flew in British airspace under American command within a bomb group. The last named are an unusual choice for modelers, because American markings on a British airframe look alien at first glance.
The print is done on ordinary backing paper for wet decals. The sheet is an accessory to a kit, which has to be obtained separately. Before applying it, the surface should be varnished with a gloss varnish, so that no silvery veil forms under the carrier film. Once dry, the area is varnished over with a matte or semi-gloss varnish, which blends the edges of the carrier film with their surroundings.
