The kit is injection-molded plastic and is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The DFS Olympia, also designated the Olympia-Meise, came about at the end of the 1930s as a single type for an intended Olympic gliding contest. The contest did not take place, but the design survived: thanks to balanced flying qualities and simple construction it was built under license in several European countries after the Second World War and became one of the most widespread performance sailplanes of the postwar period. In design terms it has a wooden fuselage and a wing covered with plywood and fabric, and the high-set simple wing has a span of around fifteen meters. The individual license batches differed in details of the cockpit, the landing gear and the surface finish, so even collectors of a single type have something to compare.
On a long thin wing, watch the straightness and the symmetry of the dihedral; support the model while gluing and let the joints cure thoroughly. Fit out and paint the glazed cockpit before you close the fuselage up, because it is visible into from every side. Mask the clear parts with narrow strips of tape and glue them with a cement intended for glazing, as an ordinary liquid cement would fog them. A wooden structure with a smooth finish calls for an even surface without emphasized panel lines; go for a good primer and a satin to glossy finish. The registration markings tend to be large, so settle them on a gloss base and with a softener so that they seat on the curved surfaces.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
