Insignia White FS 17875 in a 17 ml bottle

A paint from the Real Colors line by AK Interactive, code RC891, volume 17 ml. The white is identified in the name both by the name Insignia White and by the number FS 17875, a designation under the American shade standard. This is not just any white off the shelf, but a tone tied to a standard.

The real subject

This white was used on American aircraft for national markings, numbers, and lettering, and the same tone also covered the undersides of aircraft in two-tone schemes. That is exactly why you will encounter it twice on a model: once as an area, once as a marking. In service, white shows its age more visibly than any other shade, since it is marked by every trace of oil, exhaust soot, and handling.

Working with the paint

• White covers worse than any other shade — plan for several thin coats in succession.
• A light-colored base underneath shortens the job; over a dark base, white stays gray.
• The surface must be smooth and degreased — every unevenness shows on a white area.
• Shake the bottle before working, since the pigment settles at the bottom.
• Thin with the thinner recommended for this line and let each coat flash off.

Who it will serve

Builders of American aircraft in any scale, whether they need white for undersides or for national markings and lettering. Work in a well-ventilated room and store the bottle closed, out of reach of children.

The package contains one 17 ml bottle of paint. Thinner, brushes, an airbrush, and varnish are not included, unless stated otherwise.
