A set of precisely die-cut self-adhesive masks from the maker Montex for the kit of the floatplane Aichi E13A1 in 1:72 scale. The three-seat Jake has an unusually long glazed spine over its cabin with dense framing - exactly the kind of glazing where masks turn the most dreaded part of a build into routine.
The Aichi E13A1, known to the Allies as Jake, was a three-seat reconnaissance floatplane of the Imperial Japanese Navy and the most widespread Japanese seaplane of the Second World War. It was launched from the catapults of cruisers and battleships and from coastal bases, and it carried out long patrol and reconnaissance flights over the Pacific; machines of this type took part in the reconnaissance before the attack on Pearl Harbor. A single central fuselage, two massive floats and large areas of glazing give the model a characteristic silhouette that catches the eye on a shelf at once.
Wash and degrease the clear parts, seat the pieces of the masks with tweezers gradually along the whole spine of the cabin and press the edges down thoroughly. Apply the paint in thin layers - with long glazing it pays to spray section by section. Take the masks off shortly after it has dried; a first layer in the interior color will secure a faithful look for the frames from the inside.
This is a modeling accessory - the kit of the aircraft itself is not included in the package.
