Replacement cockpit equipment for F-14D Tomcat models in 1:72 scale. It replaces the cockpit interior from the original kit with more finely rendered parts.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Tomcat is a carrier fighter with a variable-sweep wing and a cockpit for two crew members sitting one behind the other. The pilot sits in front and the radar intercept officer behind him. The D version is the final development form of the aircraft and its cockpit instrument fit differs from the older Tomcats. The glazing is tall and open cockpits cannot be covered up by anything on a finished model.
The set replaces the cockpit interior from the original kit with separate parts. The relief of the instrument panels, the side panels and the seats on them is rendered more three-dimensionally than can be done in injection-molded plastic in 1:72 scale. The assembly goes into the fuselage before it is glued together, so schedule it right at the start of the build.
Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little short of the part and sand off the rest. Wash and degrease the parts before painting. Try the seating dry first and only then glue; with assemblies that go inside the fuselage the walls often need thinning from the back. The interior is usually painted in one base shade, after which a dark glaze brings out the recesses and the edges are gone over with a dry brush. The seats and the seat belts are painted separately, as they show the most on a finished model.
The set is for modelers who want to build their Tomcat with the canopies slid back and do not want an empty tub gaping in the cockpits. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
