A drag chute housing for the Greek F-16C in 1:72 from the Aires/Quickboost production. The detail in which the machines of the Hellenic Air Force differ from most other users.
Responsibility details are not available.
The great majority of F-16 models are based on the American form, but some foreign air forces have modified the machine. The Hellenic Air Force is among the users whose Fighting Falcons carry a drag chute housing at the root of the vertical tail. The set from Aires/Quickboost offers exactly such a cover, so that a model matches the Greek version without laborious cutting and filling.
A drag chute shortens the landing run and is invaluable on short or wet runways. Countries that operate the F-16 in broken terrain or in a harsher climate therefore had the characteristic housing added above the nozzle. On the Greek machines it is a clearly visible feature that changes the silhouette of the tail so much that even an outsider notices it in a photograph. Without it a model simply does not look like a Greek machine, even if it carries the right markings.
First check dry how the part beds down against the plastic of the base kit, and level the transition with a thin layer of filler if necessary. Make the joint with super glue and, once it has dried, sand the spot over with fine paper so that the edge does not show. Leave the painting until the whole tail is finished, so that the cover fits into the gray scheme as one piece.
