This is an injection-molded plastic kit of the American fifth generation fighter F-35C in 1:72 scale from a new mold from the manufacturer Italeri. The model captures the CATOBAR carrier variant for the aircraft carriers of the US Navy: larger wings with folding tips, strengthened nose landing gear for the catapult and an arrestor hook. The package offers decals for four schemes, parts for the rich armament of the so-called Beast Mode and masks for the surface fields. Exact part counts are given only in general terms.
The F-35C is the naval version of the Joint Strike Fighter program, adapted for operation from the decks of aircraft carriers with a catapult and arrestor wires. Compared with the land-based A version and the B version with vertical landing it has a larger wing area and sturdier landing gear, which improves the behavior on the approach to a deck and extends the range. It is a multirole machine with an emphasis on low observability and modern sensors.
Glue the parts with liquid cement for plastic. The folding wingtips can be shown spread as well as folded into the parking position. Low observability means a uniform grayish coat with fine transitions between fields; the masks supplied will help. Apply primer, then the base shade, and bring out the panels only discreetly, so that the surface comes across as smooth and present-day.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
