A resin front radial engine for the American Vought F4U-5 Corsair carrier fighter in 1:72 scale from Quickboost. It is not an airplane model, but a precisely cast detail part that replaces the simplified engine from the base kit with a more faithful rendering of the cylinders and the lines.
The F4U-5 was the late, uprated version of the famous Corsair with the inverted gull wing, operated by the US Navy after the Second World War and in the Korean War. It was powered by the massive eighteen-cylinder Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial with a two-stage supercharger. The front bank of cylinders is clearly visible behind the air scoop and, since it is usually only suggested in the kit, a crisply cast resin part lifts the impression of the nose noticeably.
Resin parts call for more careful preparation: wash them free of mold release residue in lukewarm soapy water, separate them carefully from the casting block and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue; protect your airways when sanding. Paint the engine in dark metal, bring out the cylinders with a dry brush, set the lines and wiring apart in color and unify the whole with a fine flowing wash.
The part is supplied as a resin accessory, unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
