About product

Photo-etched ladder for the F7U Cutlass in 1:72 scale

This set from the Czech brand Brengun contains an etched metal ladder to the cockpit of the F7U Cutlass carrier fighter. It is not an aircraft model in its own right but an accessory that makes exceptional sense on this unusual machine: the Cutlass stood on an extremely tall nose landing gear leg and the pilot could practically not get into the cockpit without a long ladder. Thin etch makes it possible to render the slender structure with its fine rungs more faithfully than any plastic part.

The real subject

The Vought F7U Cutlass was a technically daring American carrier fighter of the first half of the 1950s. Its tailless layout with a swept wing and a pair of vertical surfaces gave it an unmistakable silhouette; it was among the first carrier machines of the US Navy with afterburners. Its service, however, was accompanied by problems with engine performance and complicated handling, and the career of the type was fairly short. The characteristic long nose leg, which raised the nose for take-offs from the deck, makes a parked Cutlass a rewarding subject for a scene.

Tips for working with photo-etched parts

Separate the parts with a sharp knife on a hard surface and bend them with tweezers or a bender along the lines marked. Glue with super glue in small amounts. Before painting, degrease the metal and apply a primer coat; choose the final shade according to the documentation for the particular machine.

Who the accessory is for

  • Builders of dioramas from the carrier decks of the 1950s.
  • Modelers who want to emphasize the unusual silhouette of the Cutlass.
  • Anyone with basic experience of etched parts.

This is an accessory set, not an aircraft model in its own right. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; glue and paints are not included in the package.

FAQ

The F7U stood on a very tall nose leg and the pilot got into the cockpit up a long ladder - on a parked machine it is a typical sight.

Separate them with a sharp knife, bend them along the lines marked and glue them with super glue; degrease and prime before painting.

Working with fine etch takes patience and tweezers, so we recommend at least basic experience with etched parts.
