A detailed plastic kit of the LCAC hovercraft (Landing Craft Air Cushion) in 1:72 scale from the firm Trumpeter. The model captures the air-cushion landing craft in the version of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. The package holds a large number of injection-molded parts, photo-etched sheet for the fine details and a flexible part representing the inflatable skirt of the cushion. The finished model is among the largest in this category and looks impressive even on its own on a stand.
The LCAC is a fast amphibious craft that moves on an air cushion and thanks to that gets straight from the mother ship all the way to the beach and back. It carries vehicles as well as cargo and allows fast unloading with no need for harbor infrastructure. The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force uses them together with the landing ships of the Osumi class. The layout with two large pusher propellers and gas turbines on the sides is characteristic of these craft.
Because of the size and the number of parts this is a build for more advanced modelers. Glue the plastic with a thin modeling cement and the fine photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. Apply a primer before painting; an airbrush makes even coverage of the large areas of the hull and the deck easier. It is a good idea to finish the paint and the patina of the cargo area and of the cushion skirt separately. The set of decals allows the craft to be marked with several hull numbers.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
