This kit from ACE presents the British six-wheeled FV-601 Saladin armored car. The model is supplied as an injection-molded plastic kit with a decal sheet. As with the other ACE short-run kits, the detail will please more experienced builders who are not put off by careful cleaning up and dry-fitting of the parts.
The Saladin was a six-wheeled armored car developed for the British Army and brought into service from the end of the 1950s as a replacement for an older type. It carried a rotating turret with a low-pressure 76 mm gun and it used the same ammunition as the Scorpion light tank. With a crew of three, the vehicle served for reconnaissance and fire support and it was exported to a number of countries.
Dry-fitting the parts and cleaning up the molding marks is the foundation with short-run plastic. Leave the six wheels and the turret until last. A primer undercoat, the main shades with an airbrush, and then fine-tune the weathering with washes and pigments; desert and European schemes alike take dust and mud effects well.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
