A set of small glasses intended for figures of the German army of the Second World War in 1:72 scale. It is not a figure and not a kit but stand-alone elements which are fitted to a finished figure. They belong to a wider range of accessories for figures which also includes heads, hands, footwear and bases.

What the accessory solves

Glasses are among the details that turn a generic little figure into a particular person. On a diorama the eye picks out a soldier in glasses first, because he stands apart from the other figures in the row. In 1:72 scale the feature is so small that it is not to be found on an ordinary figure at all, and painting it in convincingly with a brush is not possible. Unlike paint, a fitted part has a real shape and casts a shadow of its own.

Installation and painting tips

• Work with tweezers over a mat with a raised edge, as an element of this size is easily lost.
• Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder carefully.
• Wash and degrease the element before painting, as the paint then holds considerably better.
• The parts are not polystyrene, so they are bonded with super glue; apply it with the tip of a toothpick so that it does not run onto the face.
• Pick the frames out with a dark color applied with the tip of a brush and suggest the lenses with a drop of gloss clear coat.

For builders of dioramas and figure scenes who want recognizable individuals in a throng of figures. Working with a part this small calls for a calm hand and good lighting, but otherwise the procedure is easy.
