A printed decal sheet from the British brand Xtradecal intended for models of early Hurricane Mk.I in 1:72 scale. It is neither a kit nor a plastic accessory, but markings that are laid onto a finished painted model. Which particular machines and units the sheet covers, and how wide the accompanying set of small lettering is, is given on the packaging and in the instructions supplied. We recommend looking at what the manufacturer gives on the packaging before buying, so that the markings match the variant you are building.
The Hawker Hurricane Mk.I was a single-engined single-seat fighter of mixed construction. The fuselage was formed by a tube frame with fabric covering, and the early production machines had fabric covering on the wing as well. Only later production moved to an all-metal skinned wing, so early and late Hurricanes differ noticeably in surface. Power came from the Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 engine, and the armament was concentrated in the wing. The difference between the fabric and the metal wing matters in building, because each variant corresponds to a different period of service and so to different markings.
Lay the decals solely on a smooth glossy base. A matte varnish has a microscopically broken surface in which air stays under the carrier film, and the decal then takes on a grayish, silvered cast. Once the paint is dry, therefore, spray the model with a thin coat of gloss varnish, let it cure properly and only then work with water. On fabric covering with raised ribs, proceed slowly: settle the decal, blot the excess water away with a piece of paper tissue and let it set briefly before you start pressing it down into the hollows.
The package contains the decal sheet only. The kit, paints, glue and varnishes are not part of it.
