Responsibility details are not available.
This injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale depicts the Japanese Kawasaki Ki-61-II Kai Hien fighter in the production form with a bubble canopy, from the Czech maker RS Models. It is a short-run kit; according to the manufacturer it offers several marking options. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The Ki-61 Hien, Allied code name Tony, was the only Japanese production fighter with a liquid-cooled V engine. The Ki-61-II Kai version had a more powerful engine and a modified airframe; the form with a bubble canopy offered the pilot a better view to the rear thanks to the cut-down and rounded upper fuselage. At the end of the war the machines served, among other roles, with the units defending the Japanese islands against air raids.
With a short-run kit, clean the parts up and check the fit with a dry run before gluing. Mask and paint the canopy separately. Use thin cement for plastic, render the natural metal areas with metallic paint over a smooth surface and bring out the panel lines with a fine wash; lay on a gloss varnish before the decals.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
