A plastic kit of the Lockheed Martin F-35B combat aircraft in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer Academy, released in the markings of the Marine fighter attack squadron VMFA-121, nicknamed the Green Knights. The F-35B is the variant intended for short takeoff and vertical landing, which on a model shows above all in the option of rendering the doors of the lift fan behind the cockpit open and the exhaust nozzle swiveled down. The model is supplied unassembled, as a set of injection-molded sprues with a decal sheet; the composition of the package and the number of marking options are given in the instructions in the box.
The F-35 Lightning II is a single-engine multirole combat aircraft designed with a reduced radar signature and extensive sensor integration in mind. The B version differs from the others in its propulsion solution for short takeoff and vertical landing: behind the cockpit there is a vertical lift fan driven by a shaft from the engine, and the main nozzle swivels downwards. This arrangement reduces the internal space for fuel and weapons compared with the A version, but it allows operation from short strips and from decks with a short run. VMFA-121 was the first operational squadron of the US Marine Corps to re-equip with this type.
A model with a low radar signature stands or falls on a smooth surface — fill the seams and sand them flush, otherwise they will stand out under the uniform gray finish. Decide in advance whether you will build the aircraft in the vertical landing configuration with the doors open, or in the cruise form, because it also concerns the position of the nozzle. Painting: spray a primer, then the base gray shade with an airbrush and tone the individual panels slightly so that the surface does not look flat. Apply the decals onto a gloss clear coat and unify everything at the end with a matte or satin clear coat. The particular shade codes can be found in the instructions in the box.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
