Mikoyan MiG-21PF ejection seat 1:72 is a resin replacement ejection seat from Eduard. It is a single part for the cockpit, not a kit and not an etched set.
Responsibility details are not available.
In a small scale the seat is the single most rewarding part you can replace in a cockpit. It takes up a large share of the visible space and yet in a kit it tends to be dealt with as a crude plastic block. A resin casting manages what an injection mold cannot in 1:72: a frame structure legible on its own, the divisions of the padding, the detail of the restraints and crisp edges. The seat is also supplied in one piece, so gluing and sanding seams fall away. It is made by the Czech firm Eduard.
The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 was a Soviet supersonic fighter with a delta wing, one of the most widespread jet combat aircraft of all. The PF version was among the early interceptor variants with radar in the intake cone. Early MiG-21s used an ejection seat of their own generational design, which differed clearly from later types, so it pays to choose the seat by the particular version rather than by the type in general.
Wash the casting in lukewarm soapy water to get rid of the mold release agent. Cut the casting block off with a fine saw and level the surface by wet sanding, with respiratory protection. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue. Spray it with primer before painting: on smooth resin, paint without primer comes off easily. In 1:72 it is essential not to overpaint: use thin coats, otherwise the very details you bought the part for will disappear. Distinguish the padding from the metal frame and finally bring the whole out with a dark wash and dry-brushing along the edges.
This is an accessory to a model, not a standalone kit. The base model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
